How We Can Work Together
Therapy for Midlife can provide teletherapy to individuals and couples residing in California, Wisconsin and 42 additional states.
PSYPACT is an interjurisdictional agreement allowing for Psychologists that are certified to provide teletherapy to anyone residing in 42 participating states.
A psychologist is mandated by law to maintain a patient’s confidentiality. Your information will never be shared without your written permission. There are a few limits that pertain to this law. These include cases involving elder abuse, child abuse or imminent danger to oneself or someone else.
Medication is not currently prescribed by Therapy for Midlife. Your psychologist can talk to you about whether a referral to a prescribing physician may be appropriate based on your symptoms. With your written permission, your psychologist can also speak to your physician to coordinate your care when appropriate.
All teletherapy sessions provided through Therapy for Midlife are done over a HIPPA-compliant electronic health record (HER) video conference platform called Simple Practice.
Clinical research has shown that teletherapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. Teletherapy is confidential, convenient and effective.
Teletherapy provides the comfort and convenience of receiving care from the location of your choice without the added stress of commuting to a doctor’s office. You will need a space that is private, void of distractions, a laptop or phone, headphones and a stable internet connection.
The goal of therapy is to not be in therapy forever.
That being said, a very small percentage of clients get what they need from therapy in less than 5 sessions. Most individuals need 5-15 sessions to resolve immediate challenges. Some clients feel more supported by longer-term therapy.
Usually, we begin meeting weekly and then spread sessions to biweekly or monthly depending on your needs. Therapy always includes conversation and flexibility around finding the length of time that works for you.
For couples therapy, clients should expect a minimum of 10 sessions. Again, this will depend on the couple and the extent of their relationship distress. Often couples will start weekly and extend the time between their sessions as therapy progresses.
